Lent-Return: Joel 2:13

She Reads Truth’s Lenten Devotional, Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross focuses on returning to God today. As I read the Scripture verses, Joel 2:12-27 and Jeremiah 24:4-7, God’s amazing grace and depth of love and forgiveness flooded my heart with joy.

Joy because He always reaches out to me. Even when I sin, when I break fellowship, He is the one who extends grace, compassion, mercy, and forgiveness. He does not look for symbols of faith, like the tearing of clothes. He wants genuine repentance. A renewed relationship.

Tear your hearts, He says.

Return to the Lord your God

Who knows, He may turn and relent and leave a blessing behind Him, so you can offer grain and wine to the LORD your God.

God, even when I sin, calls me to Him. He leaves a blessing for me so I can then offer Him a praise offering.

He deserves my praise. Praise for His love and forgiveness. Praise because He always sees me as His child.

I can return to Him because He paves the way. Look at all He gives to ensure I see Him and return to Him:

Jeremiah 24:6-7

I will keep My eyes on them for their good…

I will build them up and not demolish them;

I will plant them and not uproot them.

I will give them a heart to know Me; that I am Yahweh.

They will be My people, and

I will be their God

because they will return to Me with all their heart.
