My One Word: Focused Living All Year

My One WordI first learned about My One Word from Ann Voskamp. But the idea originated with the book by Mike Ashcraft and Rachel Olsen. The cover says: Change Your Life with Just One Word. The idea captivated me as a way to help keep my eyes fixed on Jesus all year long. I ALWAYS need more of Jesus. I need reminders to keep my gaze, my heart, my mind on Him instead of my circumstances or myself.

Having one word be part of my year, really does help me when I wander as Robert Robinson eloquently penned in verse four of the hymn Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing in 1758:

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

My One Word fetters me when I wander. It brings me back to Jesus. And that’s where I want to be all the time.

My One Word

I chose my first word in 2013. This anchor page links to the words I have used. Having one word helps me be intentional in living for Jesus. It serves as a lens to see the world, and my part in it, from a perspective of serving God. My attitudes and actions become more centered on Him and less on myself.

I recommend you go to the website: Pick Your Word for a more detailed explanation from the authors. And read the book yourself. You’ll be glad you did!

Once you have your one word, I’d love to hear what it is and why you chose that word. Please leave a comment and share with me.
